Be A Pane

Far too often we are expected to become one in the same. But I say, in a world of mirrors, be a window. It should never be our goal to be a mere reflection of those around us, but instead, we should only strive to be a transparent representation of ourselves. Windows are far more interesting for they have far more depth and originality, not to mention clarity. Occasionally, you will have those who merely stop long enough to try to focus upon what little reflection they can find upon the glass surface, but, there will also be those who will stay far longer... and, perhaps, even forever, captivated by the true view of your heart and soul. The latter, of course, will be the ones who matter in the end. For they know that there is an unspoken beauty that comes from transparency, especially when it bares the honesty of one's innermost thoughts, hopes, and dreams.

In the same way that a glass casing simultaneously displays the intricacy and simplicity of working mechanisms, so does the glass casing of one's soul. Granted, there will be times when we feel as though we must close our curtains, even just slightly. Sometimes it is because we feel vulnerable because of our own actions and/or insecurities... other times, it will be due to the actions and/or opinions of others. Either way, we can't leave them in such manner, however, because no light can pass through– neither in nor out– and this results in a very dark world for us and for those around us. And, more often than not, the people who need Light the most are the ones who say they prefer the dark. So, at the end of the day, remember this: Don't be a mirror... Be a pane.
